2015 Armor Plate Zinfandel Magnum

Vintage Notes:

Early winter rains with warmer than average temperatures woke the vines up for a third straight early bud break. In spite of the early rainfall, most of the spring and summer featured hot and dry weather patterns. The exception was a cold and windy month of May, which negatively affected the flowering and subsequent fruit set. May’s weather, combined with the vines enduring their fourth consecutive drought year, lowered yields about 40 percent overall for the vintage. Harvest began on September 3rd with certain blocks picked on record early dates. The 2015 vintage was reminiscent of the 2014, which resulted with a vintage defined by ample structure and lasting charm, but with much lower yields.

Tasting Notes:

This single vineyard blend has a dark translucent countenance in the glass. Expressive aromas suggest fruits of black cherry, blackberry and dark raspberry with background notes of laurel, fennel and smoke. The weight and concentration of the palate furthers the expression of stewed, dark red fruits, a stony minerality and fine spice. This lush mouthfeel, so prevalent in the onset, persists through its generous, lengthy finish. While this wine is structured for consumption in three to five years, it will be difficult to keep from consuming it in its youth.
